My Review

 

As the wife of a US Marine, I love to read stories where one or more of the characters is or was in the military.  Of course, when I met Jonathan Beltran AKA Army, I was thrilled.

This is the first book I have read by Kacey Shea but it will definitely not be my last.  I truly enjoyed her realistic characters, plot and story.  Uncovering Desire is the second book in this series but one that I think can be read as a standalone.  I was able to follow the story along just fine.

Uncovering Desire is a love story.  The characters are fun, feisty, real and sexy.   Jon and Kate, the main characters have this love/hate friendship relationship going on.  They have known each other for many years and it is clear that although they argue and bicker, there is much more going on between them.

Jon served in the US Army and now works as a PI with his friend Evie.  Jon is sexy hot and I’ve added him to my list of book boyfriends.  His friendship with Evie is honest, relatable and enjoyable to read about.

Kate is their mutual friend.  She’s a sexy and vivacious woman.  Jon can’t keep his eyes off of her.  An asbestos incident in her building leads to a temporary housing change for Kate.  This dilemma finds her with a temporary roommate, Jon.  This arrangement turns out to be intense and “desirable. “

Both of the main characters in this story have their own back stories or traumas they are still coping with.  They both need to heal.  Learning about their past brings them closer together.  Passionate moments as well as some deep emotional moments make this story one that kept me hooked.

While some of the story was predictable, I enjoyed it immensely and recommend it.

This gem has love, passion, friendship, healing and a conclusion that left longing for the next book in the series.

As I mentioned, I started reading this series with book 2 but will go back and read book 1 for sure.

I enjoyed this realistic cast of characters and their passionate story.

I gave this book 5 stars!

As the Chief Financial Officer of Chase Industries I am used to being in the public eye. Press and media attention for my business dealings, as well as my personal life, are unfortunately part of daily life. I pay an eminent team of public relations specialists and lawyers to spin what is reported about me to maximize its effectiveness to my benefit. It is all about control, and I never lack control. It is a quite different experience to have the intimate details of your life recounted by others. I reluctantly had to accept that the story of the most profound events of my life would be told to millions across the globe. Naturally I had to be hyper critical.

After reading Remind Me by the immensely talented duo of Ann Marie Walker and Amy K. Rogers, I must admit that my initial worries and reservations were unwarranted. When I read how authentically they retold my story I knew that these ladies were going to engage the readers in a way no other author of the current romantic genre had. The way they described the events as they unfolded transported you in a way that made you feel as if you were standing in the room with me and Allie, or rather next to the motorcycle, if you will.

I was eagerly anticipating the release of book 2, Release Me, to see the continuation of this personal and romantic evolution Alessandra and I went on. I thought it was extraordinarily brilliant and very accurate. I was reminded of when I had no choice but to watch Allie go through the most painful time of her life from afar because she wanted nothing to do with me. I didn’t blame her, I knew I royally screwed up by not telling her I was the one rapidly acquiring shares of Ingram Media. She desperately wanted to hate me, especially when I proposed the idea of us both being interim co-CEOs, but I saw that look in her eyes still lingering. The look that first took my breath away 10 years ago and more recently during the month we had spent together.

Thanks to a chance meeting I had with Harper one evening, she convinced Allie that I may not be the asshole she wanted to believe I was. What ensued was two people who were both craving the love that always seemed to elude them. Every year around Christmas Allie and I still put up the pyramid we bought when we visited the ChristKindle Market for the first time together. I adore reliving that memory. Being there with her was the first time in my life I felt totally and utterly happy just being someone’s boyfriend. I didn’t need the security of knowing I was one of the richest men in the world or one of the most powerful. My business acumen was irrelevant. I was in the uncharted waters of being Alessandra Sinclair’s boyfriend and I loved it. We began to heal each other by building memories neither of us had ever been offered. I was forced to remember the struggles of my upbringing and Allie forced to remember how her whole life had been about and empty existence that her parents made sure looked perfect from the outside. We spent our first Christmas together with the people who mattered most to us, Harper and Nick. Allie made that the most incredible holiday of my life. Just her being there made it special, but seeing all she did made it magical.

Our journey then extended with our first international trip together. With every passing moment I fell more and more in love with her. From Venice to Verona and even on that damn Orient Express with the steward who always ruined our mood, it was all perfect. Then my fists involuntarily clench and I seethe over what happened next. I cannot bring myself to talk about it, but you will see when you read it and I expect you will see my confusion, rage and heartache is justified.

What Ms. Walker and Ms. Rogers captured frighteningly well is the wild, unbridled and raw sexual chemistry. From what can only be described as Allie hate fucking me in an elevator, to our reunion dinner, to making passionate love, to raw animalist fucking on the train, we cannot control our lust and constant need for each other. I dare you to ever decorate a cookie with frosting after reading this book and not get instantly turned on by the memory. I certainly do and without apology. When I have to warn the love of my life, “It’s not going to be gentle.” and her response is “do it.” you know you are in for a wild fucking ride. Pun very much intended.

A deeply personal aspect of my story that is also told is the journey I take with my younger brother Nick. You see a side of me that no one has ever seen before. In my attempts at helping Nick gain and maintain sobriety you get to witness two siblings who have both a spoken and unspoken understanding of each other. You are reminded of my protective nature and how important it is to do right by him now since I still feel like I let him down many years ago.

Release Me is by far and away one of the best pieces of literature in the modern adult romance genre. I can see why you would think I am biased considering it is my life story, but even more reason for you to trust me. If it was anything less than stellar I would not recommend it. You will feel every range of emotion while reading this book and you will constantly shift who you are rooting for as the story progresses. Most importantly this book will reaffirm people’s belief in love. In a world with so much madness, depression and anxiety Release Me shows us it is ok to hope for a better tomorrow. It allows us to believe in healing, kindness and good winning out over evil. There is still a long way to go in completing Allie’s and my story, but I promise you that you won’t regret coming along for the ride, be it on a my motorcycle or the Orient Express.

 “We need to talk.” With a quick movement Hudson punched a card into the control panel and the elevator jerked to a halt.

Allie’s eyes darted to the panel and her spine straightened. “We talked at the gallery.”

“That wasn’t a conversation.” More like verbal sparring.

“I said all I needed to say.” She appeared to be completely composed, but Hudson could see the rise and fall of her chest, the white-knuckle grip on her bag.

“You may have unloaded, but hell if I have. And no matter what it takes you’re going to hear me out. Even if it means keeping this godforsaken elevator stopped all fucking day.” He tried to remind himself that anger would get him nowhere. Calm, levelheaded domination was the key to pressing the advantage, except he was way past that. With her he felt like he was gripping sand and every grain was slipping through his fingers.

“Stop trying to control me, Hudson.” Allie turned and lifted her chin. The anger was gone and in its place was a mask of complete indifference. Goddamn, it shredded him. He’d take anger over apathy any day.

He took a deep breath. She was going to ride this facade like the Macy’s Day Parade, marching through their little exchange as if they were nothing more than business partners forced into a resentful coexistence. He had to get her to drop her guard, to let him in. And if pissing her off was what it took to incite a reaction, then so be it.

“It’s never been that way between us and you know it, Alessandra.” Hudson flashed a slight smirk as he prepared to drop the H-bomb. “Well, except for the bedroom. And if memory serves, you enjoyed it.”

He braced himself, expecting a slap to light his face on fire, but instead her eyes dilated and fixated on his mouth. Her lips parted and her breath quickened. He had her. No matter how unaffected she pretended to be, she couldn’t help but respond to him. And the longer they stood mere inches apart, the more desire took over and became a downright menace.

            Never one to miss an opportunity, Hudson reassessed on the fly. He stepped closer and his voice dropped to a low, seductive murmur. “Is that what it will take for you to hear me out?” He swept a hand across her collarbone and up the side of her neck. “You, tied to my bed?”

My Review

It’s not every day that I fall in love with a series the way I did with this one. Remind Me, book 1 in the Chasing Fire series was an amazing debut for this dynamic author duo. I enjoyed that book immensely but, Release Me was even more amazing!

First of all, if you haven’t read the first book, get on your eReader and download it now. To thoroughly understand this series, you must read book 1. At the end of that book, Allie discovered much about her parents, her ex-fiancée and Hudson. Release Me, book 2 starts off right where Remind Me ends.

Tragedy strikes changing both Allie’s personal and professional life. There is much for Allie to deal with. An emergency board meeting names both Allie and Hudson to joint CEO positions where they must work together.

While Allie may have freedom from her parents, who enjoyed making life decisions for her, she now needs to prove herself to keep Ingram Media alive. With Hudson as her new partner, trust issues arise.

I love Allie and Hudson so much. They were perfectly written. Allie shows her strengths in this book in many areas. She takes command of her professional responsibilities, maintains a steady friendship with Harper and establishes a humorous relationship with her new assistant Colin. Oh, you will love Colin. He is the ideal assistant.

Hudson, sigh….. continues to be the total alpha male and excels at the “commanding alpha.” I mean seriously, if commanding alpha was an Olympic sport, I would be on the sidelines holding up that “10” sign and cheering for sure.

I think what I loved most about Hudson in this story is that he demonstrated how multifaceted he really is. He is gorgeous, sexy as fuck, powerful, forgiving, romantic, commanding, funny, and ultimately loving. It is truly evident that Hudson will do anything for Allie making him such a complete man/character. You’ll see, you will love him even more than in Remind Me.  I promise.

After misunderstandings have been clarified, this couple finally gets back together. Let me warn you, it’s the exquisitely written intense and romantic moments planned by Mr. Chase that will heat up your eReaders and may require a glass of water or two.

There were many scenes that I absolutely adored in this book making it quite difficult to pick a favorite. I loved the elevator scene for its intensity. I loved Christmas for many reasons. But the funniest, while sexiest part was cookie decorating with Hudson. I totally pictured that scene in my mind.   And finally, there is the Orient Express scene. Holy Wow!

Important characters from Remind Me are back. Strong sibling love is truly evident in this book from moments in Nick’s rehab to Christmas Eve/Day. Those moments proved how tender and lovable Hudson could be. Harper, Allie’s “BFF” as Hudson calls her, has an important role in this book as well. She is not only supporting of Allie but protective in a way only a best friend could be.

This book series is at the top of my favorites and I know I mentioned this before when I reviewed Remind Me, but it is true. I could picture my favorite male model, David Gandy, the muse, throughout every brilliantly written scene.

Release Me is another “unputdownable” emotional read with forgiveness, passion, new beginnings and ultimately love.

As for the ending, without giving anything away, readers will be left with another concerning cliffhanger.  Why is October so far away?

I can’t wait to read Reclaim Me, book 3 in this trilogy to see how their story ends.

I gave this book 5 sizzling stars! 

The Chasing Fire Series is perfect Summer reading and I highly recommend it.

My Review

 

Love, passion, forgiveness, angst and a fantastic cast of characters make this a brilliant read.

Second chance romances are among my favorite books to read.  Kim Karr’s Toxic is just that. It is a second chance romance filled with truly emotional moments.  There are ups and downs, lies, surprises, secrets and delicious steamy sex scenes all cleverly written into a perfect book.

This is my first Kim Karr book and I have to say, I loved it!  Phoebe and Jeremy are an incredibly hot couple. Just like the title, their love, their connection is Toxic, like a drug you cannot get enough of.   Their chemistry is sizzling.  Kim took me on an emotional roller coaster that was totally worth the ride.  You see, this is the type of book that keeps a reader totally engaged.  Just when I thought one thing, another revelation or plot twist developed.   I loved everything about Phoebe and Jeremy, from the way they met, their first night together, to the way they carried on and ended.  I cheered for them and wanted to see this couple together. I wanted the forgiveness and the happy ever after for them.

I do admit to having moments when I wanted to slam my kindle.  But in the end, I am glad I kept on reading.

The characters are all unique and wonderful.  Jeremy, well… he is simply divine, charming and complex. He is quite the character.  Phoebe, is a beautiful and brilliant woman who wants what every woman wants, the man of her dreams, the one she cannot forget.  Their friends, supportive and real are significant in the development of this story. Poppy, Phoebes mother,  although I disliked her at first, grew on me. While there were many frustrating moments,  in the end, I was delighted to see all of the characters come full circle.

The ending brought clarity to all those moments of angst and frustration.   All of those moments that made me crazy were worth it for this couple.

Kim Karr, you have a new fan.

Today, my oldest child is in college and my twins are juniors so they no longer go with me on these outings. My Review

AJ Linn, I can honestly say that your characters and your books have become some of my favorites. Your series is one of those that I have thoroughly enjoyed and continue to recommend to my reader friends.  Donovan made my list of all time favorite book boyfriends for so many reasons.  Honestly, reading this last book in this series was bittersweet. The anticipation was well worth it.  Your book was amazing and the plot/twists were totally unexpected.

I have to start off by mentioning to those reading this review that you must read all of the books in this series first.  A Gentleman’s Affair cannot be read as a standalone.  It is important to know Donovan as well as the other significant characters in this series to thoroughly understand this final installment.

This final books begins with Donovan and Scarlett, the woman of his dreams, his love.  A perfect setting, a perfect plan and wait…. I was instantly surprised and shocked. I couldn’t believe what happened.

Before I even had a chance to process what had transpired, Donovan’s father enters the picture and his revelation surprises me as well.  Seriously, I found myself suffering while reading and wondering if I had misunderstood what I had just read.

Just when I thought I knew what was going on, more twists and turns came up.

After some deeps breaths, I continued reading.  Donovan heads back to Las Vegas, to Pisa, his hotel.  Patrice his assistant joins him as well as several of his workers from La Fuga.  Their support for Donovan made me smile.  They were his team,  the ones that helped him through the darkness.

Patrice becomes an important character in this book.  Her patience and time spent with Donovan in this book made me smile.  I really like her and after reading more about her in this book, she became an important female in this book.   Fortunately, Donovan and his father reconcile their differences. Still, Donovan decides on staying in Vegas and opening a new club there.  He has his life planned out.  His hotel Pisa is symbolic and he is determined to make his mark there as well.

Back to love. Scarlett and Donovan may have had their misunderstandings but Donovan, being the loving man he is, decides on doing the right thing. Once again,  What just happened? (no spoilers)  Reading this book was heartbreaking.  OMG!

You will find love, misunderstanding, forgiveness, grief and joy in this book.  AJ took me on a roller coaster of emotions.  As for the ending… well, honestly, it made me smile.  🙂

All in all, A Gentleman’s Fate is brilliantly written.  AJ has a style of his own and one that I admire as a reader. His writing is simple yet powerful. He includes funny moments to balance out those serious moments as well.   This book was unpredictable just like our fate.

Writing this review was difficult because I want to tell you all about the book.   But, I won’t.  You will have to read it for yourself.

I will end with this, “AJ,  I need more.  Please!”

About the Author

A.J. Linn published his debut novel, A Gentleman’s Affair, Volume 1 of The Gentleman’s Series, in May, 2013.

Since that time, he has continued protagonist Donovan Hart’s story in A Gentleman’s Secret, published in December, 2013, and revealed Donovan’s earlier life in a prequel, A Gentleman’s Memoir, a novella published in August, 2014.

The series quickly became very popular with fans of his RP/character blog, which he’d been writing for almost a year. He credits those fans with this series, since they were the ones who encouraged him to “write a book” and dedicated the books to them.

With his unique voice and writing style, the popularity of the series began to grow, despite the promotion and marketing challenges facing a self-published indie author.

In an original and creative idea, he gave his readers the opportunity to submit “characters” for A Gentleman’s Secret and A Gentleman’s Memoir, which he crafted into the story. The results were intriguing and sometimes hilarious, as he paid the ultimate compliment to his fans and readers…making their characters part of Donovan’s story.

While having full-time job and a very busy life make finding time to write a challenge at times, his readers are in agreement that he has done a fantastic job: four books in two years is quite an accomplishment.

Allie wrapped the sheet around her and climbed out of bed. A pair of French doors led to a small balcony, and when she opened them she discovered Hudson sitting on the driveway below her. On a Harley. Wearing leather.

Heat pooled between her legs as her traitorous body responded to his despite her embarrassment over her wanton behavior. Placing both hands on his chest, she gave him a playful shove. “Well, you can stop now.”

Hudson chuckled. “Here,” he said, handing Allie the helmet. “Put this on.”

Allie took the helmet from him and eyed it skeptically. “I don’t think it will fit over my ponytail.”

“It’s not up for debate. But you might be more comfortable with your hair down.” He reached up and gently tugged the hair tie loose, letting her long blond curls cascade around her shoulders. His knuckles brushed her cheek. “You look beautiful.”

His touch ignited her skin. She looked up at him from beneath her lashes and began to wonder if they’d make it back in the house, let alone on a bike ride. If he wanted to take her right there on the gravel, she’d probably let him.
