My Review

First of all, I am a huge Jennifer Probst fan. Her books are always a perfect blend of awesome characters, exquisite writing, a hint of the unexpected and sexy love scenes too.  Beyond Me, one of the books in this fun and sassy Sex on the Beach Series does not disappoint.  It was amazing!

First of all, Jennifer, thanks for taking me back to Key West for awhile.  As a Floridian, Key West has so much to offer especially to Spring Breakers,  It was the perfect setting for Quinn and James to meet and enjoy their Spring Break together.  I could totally see these two characters as well as their friends in all of the places described in this book.

The characters, Quinn and James were simply perfect.  I loved Quinn’s sweet and reserved personality.  She is definitely a strong and independent woman with much life experience for her young age. James, whoa….   Gorgeous is not enough to describe this sexy and delicious guy.  I totally loved James from the very start.  He is a rich sexy young man who lives on his own.  He has been partying and blowing money all of his life.  You may consider him a playboy when you first meet him.  But, as you get to know him, his unexpected qualities emerge, making him even better if that is possible. (Yes, I would love to have a James for Spring Break too.)

While Quinn and James see Spring Break as a time to hook up, their instant chemistry sears through the pages of this story.  Quinn turns out to be more for James than he expected.  The sex, well, yes, it is totally hot and tastefully written.  I do admit to blushing along the way and enjoying the intensity of their chemistry together.

Their Spring Break encounter teaches both Quinn and James about themselves.  It was a pleasure to read and enjoy how much these two characters wanted and ultimately needed each other.  I think that one of the main reasons that I loved this book so much is because Quinn brings out the best in James (no spoilers, read it to find out what I mean) In fact, they both are good for each other.

This story is written in both character POV’s which I really love.  This writing style is awesome because the reader gets complete insight as to what each character has on their mind.  As a reader, it makes understanding the characters emotions more fun.  And, being inside the male mind is always so entertaining.

Beyond Me is a must read!  I know that you will love reading it as much as I did.  So grab a Sex on the Beach cocktail,  sit back and enjoy this sexy, sassy you just can’t put down book today.

Sex on The Beach Drink Recipe

I just finished reading this awesome book, Beyond Me by Jennifer Probst.  It is one of the books in the Sex on the Beach Series.  (full review tomorrow)

I thought it would only be right to get in the mood for this series with a drink.  Here is the recipe for a Sex on the Beach Cocktail.

Ingredients

1 1/2 oz vodka

1/2 oz peach schnapps

2 oz cranberry juice

2 oz orange juice

Add vodka and peach schnapps to a highball glass over ice.   Fill with equal measures of cranberry and orange juice.  Stir!

Garnish with a slice of orange.

A buzzing in my purse makes me realize that my phone has been demanding my attention for the past few minutes. I’m not sure how long. Fifteen missed calls from Harris, two from Claire and a bevy of text messages. He’s calling right now.

“Hello,” I whisper into the phone.

“Where are you? Please, I won’t… Just, please, tell me where you are so I can come pick you up.” He sounds frantic. In the background a horn angrily blasts and he yells, “Shut the f**k up!”

“I didn’t say anything,” I stammer.

“No, the a**hole behind me. Where are you, Edith? I’ll come get you.”
“Oak Street beach.”

“F**k!” he roars, causing me to start. “Do you have any idea how dangerous it is out there? Do you see anyone around you?”

“No. I’m all by myself,” I whisper.

“Stay put. I’ll be there in two minutes.”

The phone clicks and he’s gone. I cover my wet face with my hands and close my eyes to try and block out the whirlwind of emotions swirling around me like a violent tornado. I want to go home. Not just the home a few blocks away, but the safety of my room in Arlington.

I hear the pounding of sand, but I keep my eyes closed. Rough hands yank me into his arms, and he presses his face into the crook of my neck. Put side by side, his hands span the width of my back and curl around my sides. He rocks us back and forth.

“You’re safe, you’re safe,” he whispers over and over. It’s unclear if he is talking to me or to himself. We sit like that for a while, I don’t know how long, until he finally loosens his hold, and presses his forehead into mine gently.

“I’m sorry I ran,” I say softly.

“Of course you did, I attacked you like an animal. I was out of line.” We continue breathing in each others’ air as the breeze whispers around us. He bunches me to him tightly, my safe haven.

“You’re not angry?” I ask timidly.

His eyes are closed when he responds, “Hell yes, I’m angry.”

I inhale deeply, waiting for what’s next.

“Not at you, Edith, only at me.”

A slow exhale lets out the breath I’m holding and I sag down in relief.

“That was unforgivable of me, treating someone so inexperienced that way.”

“Inexperienced?” I study his furrowed brow, his eyes still closed.

“You’re a virgin,” he says the word with awe, like I’m an undiscovered species.

I shrug out of his embrace, jumping up to my feet. “Virgin!” I squawk. “I’m not!”

Okay, having sex with two people doesn’t make me an all knowing sex goddess, but it’s been a few years since I lost that innocence.

My Review

I love books where the story and characters seem real.  You know the kind,  like you can see yourself as friends with the characters because they are so well written, you can relate with them.   In Pursuit is one of the those books.  From the moment that I started the book, I immediately connected with the characters.  Eddie (Edith) is a very likable, real young woman.  She is starting her life and career in a new city.  Her new life comes with a roommate, Claire,  your typical spoiled little rich girl. Then there is Harris, Claire’s brother which will take your breath away and finally, my favorite supporting characters, Sean and Luke.

In Pursuit is a witty romantic story.  Eddie, is starting a new life in Chicago where her decorating business takes off. When she meets Harris, sparks fly.  The interest in this delicious male is definitely there.  As she gets to know him better, she learns that the interest is mutual.  Everything is going well for her.  Her professional life is thriving.  She meets new clients and makes friends.  Everything seems perfect. Harris is perfect.  Their chemistry takes over and there is your hot and steamy love story.

Of course, all love stories have their obstacles.  Eddie’s past and her present post hurdles in this story. Claire, the roommate, seems to have a problem with Harris and Eddie among other problems of her own.  (no spoilers)

Cleverly written, In Pursuit will keep you hooked to the Kindle (in my case).  The right amount of suspense and angst make this a great read.

The story ends with a cliffhanger.  I can’t wait to see what happens to one of my favorite new couples, Eddie and Harris.

My Review

As a baker, I love all things related to baking and desserts.  When I first saw this cover and title, I knew this was a book for me. What I did not know was that I would become so consumed by this story of Tenley and Hayden.  Cupcakes and Ink is a prequel. It introduces the reader to the characters in Clipped Wings.  This prequel may be short but I felt that it was essential to really understanding the characters.  Written in both Tenley and Hayden’s point of view, the reader is able to get into the mind of both of the characters and truly understand their feelings and insecurities.  You also meet the secondary characters which each play a significant role in Clipped Wings.

I immediately fell for Hayden and I am pretty sure, just like Tenley,  you will be dreaming about him too. He is quite a complex character. He is gorgeous and covered in tattoos.   I also loved Tenley, a young girl starting her life over in a new city, who bakes, like me.  🙂

I have to say, Helena, did an amazing job of keeping me hooked to her story. Her writing is exquisite and memorable.  I read Cupcakes and Ink and immediately read Clipped Wings.  Yes, I am now a huge Helena Hunting fan.  I have been raving about her books for the past couple of weeks.

I’d love to say more about this prequel, but do not want to give too much away.  I highly recommend this read as well as Clipped Wings which you can pre-order and get next month.

I gave this book 5 brilliant stars.
