I love to read trilogies and The Chasing Fire Trilogy immediately skyrocketed to the top of my 2015 favorite books list. You see Ann Marie and Amy created this amazing series that captivated me from the very start.  Their muse or inspiration for their male protagonist Hudson, was David Gandy.  Enough said. Wow! I’m a Gandy girl and I will tell you, he is the perfect Hudson.   Trust me, this is a series I am sure you will love.

Reclaim Me is the final book in this trilogy. This book picks up where the last book leaves you, hanging and full of angst.  Alessandra and Hudson are in France.  Harper, Allie’s best friend has flown to meet her there.  And, the arrogant French ass Julian is back with his own agenda for Allie and Hudson.

Once back in Chicago, Allie and Hudson have plenty to deal with.  Julian is making sure Allie complies with his plan.  Many revelations are made along the way.  Lets just say, life becomes more complicated for Allie and Hudson.  (no spoilers)

Allie wants to protect Hudson and Nick while Hudson wants to protect Allie.

Hudson continues to be the commanding alpha male I love so much while still showing a lighter and more humorous side.  Look out for some fun and sexy text messages along the way too. Hudson also knows how to romance his lady.  Yes, Hudson even dabbles in poetry. He will stop at nothing to show his love for Allie.

One of the reasons why I enjoyed this book so much is because all of the secondary characters stand out.  We learn more about them and ultimately love them more.  They truly play important roles in Hudson and Allie’s lives. They help to make this story complete.

Nick, Hudson’s brother is on the right track.  And, if you made the same prediction I made in Release Me, you’ll be thrilled to learn more about his personal/love life in this book.  His relationship with Hudson is stronger as well.  I loved the sibling bonding, especially a certain bow tie scene.  I’d love to read more about Nick in another book. (Please)

Collin, Allie’s assistant proves to be a great friend too.  He’s always had Allie’s back and turns out to be an invaluable and trustworthy employee as well.

Harper, the bff.  She’s sassy and full of life. I’ve always loved her and I was excited to see how her personal life unfolded as well. Let’s just say, Harper and Allie have similar taste in men.

(As an Ian Somerhalder fan, I loved the bar scene. Just saying. 🙂 )

Prepare yourself for a thrill ride through Chicago.  You’ll find adventure,  love, angst, humor, hope, romance, revelations from the past, friendship, an adorable puppy, and lots and lots of steamy sex in this final book.

Will Allie and Hudson find their happily ever after?

reclaim me teaser 1

Writing this review was bittersweet and difficult.  I didn’t want Hudson and Allie’s story to end and at the same time, I wanted to share the story with you.  But, I can’t spoil it.  You will have to get the book/series and read for yourself.  You won’t be disappointed.

I loved all of the books in this series. However, Reclaim Me is my favorite. The intensity of their love, their passion and unwavering pursuit for a happy ending makes this such a spectacular read.

So if you haven’t started this series, one click it today.  Happy reading!

I gave this book 5 steamy stars!

5 stars

I received and ARC from the publisher in exchange for an honest review.

Stay tuned for another post later this week with my favorite lines.

EXCERPT

It’s 4.45 pm and I am just going through my emails for the day when my intercom sounds.

Eliza speaks. “Mr Stanton, Miss Marx is here to see you.”

I smile. The crazy bitch won’t take a hint. “Send her in,” I sigh.

The bodyguard opens the door and she walks in wearing a black coat, her high heels clicking on the marble tiles. She smiles warmly and her dimples immediately defrost my anger. Just the sight of my precious girl makes my neck tight and I crack it to release the tightness.

“Hello baby,” she smiles.

“Hello.” I smile defeated, she’s not going to let me fight with her, and it’s strangely comforting.

“I wanted to come and see where you work.” Her eyes flick around the office.

I smirk as I sit back in my chair. “Did you now?”

She nods again and her eyes look around the room and up to the ceiling. “Your office is very nice.”

I frown, not understanding what she is doing.  “Are there cameras in here?” she asks.

I smile. “No.”

She bites her lip nervously. “I thought I would come and show you what I bought today.”

I raise a brow in question.

She drops the coat and my eyes drop down her body. She is in a black suspender belt, lace bra and G-string … fucking Perfection.

She holds her hand out and I take it in mine as I stand. She does a twirl on the spot and I feel my cock harden. “You like, Mr Stanton?” she asks.

My eyes hold hers and I reply. “I do.”

“I know that you’re disappointed in me but I’m not letting your mother come between us again.”

I smirk.

“Do you want to be friends?” She raises an eyebrow in question as she places her hands on her hips.

I can’t resist and my lips drop to the part where her neck meets her shoulder and I kiss her gently. “Are you trying to bargain your way out of my anger, Miss Marx?” I run my lips back and forth up her neck.

She drops her head to the side to give me greater access. “Maybe?” she whispers as she smiles into my kiss and runs her tongue though my open smiling lips.

“Maybe?” I repeat. “What does that mean?” I ask as she kisses me more urgently and I feel my cock start to thump as I see our reflection in the window. The sight of her in that lingerie in my office nearly makes me come on the spot. She is standing on her toes to reach me and in the process flexing every muscle in her legs and ass. So fucking hot …

“It means I have a closing argument for you,” she whispers as she tiptoes to kiss my neck. She bites me and goosebumps scatter up my arms.

“What’s the closing argument?” I whisper huskily.

She slowly unzips my pants and without breaking eye contact drops to her knees in front of me. My hands instinctively go to the back of her head.

“I would like you to blow in my mouth,” she breathes and then licks her lips as she frees me from my pants and gently licks up the length of my penis. I run my hand gently over her hair as my cock oozes pre-ejaculate. Fuck, I love this woman.

“And then I want you to bend me over your desk and fuck me like you hate me!” she whispers.

I grab a hand full of hair and impale her mouth with my cock.

“Stop talking and start sucking because you are about to fucking cop it.” I growl as I fill her mouth to the hilt and hiss as I pull out, again deeper, and she runs her tongue over the end of me as she pulls out and my eyes close. Fuck, she gives good head. Deeper and deeper she takes me as she fondles my balls and I watch our reflection in the window until I am so crazy with lust that I can’t stand it anymore. I don’t want her mouth, I want inside her. I drag her up by the arm and throw her across my desk and rip her underpants from her body. There she lies … my beautiful kryptonite. I spread her with my fingers so that I can see her beautiful weeping pink flesh and pull her breast out of her bra to get the visual of the whole package. I look up at the door as I realise that it isn’t locked and it only fuels my desire even more. Anyone could walk in here at any moment, and the thought of someone seeing us like this turns me inside out. I pull her apart again and start to stroke myself slowly and vigorously, one … two … three … four … my cock weeps.

Her dark eyes watch me and her back arches off the table. “Joshua,” she begs and I start to run my head backwards and forwards through her until I can hold it no longer and I feed my cock into her hot flesh.

“That’s it,” she whispers as her eyes roll back in her head.

My eyes close as I try to control the orgasm that is hammering up on me. I grab her shoulders with straightened arms for leverage and I let loose: long hard punishing stokes where she can’t speak. Pure desire fills her face, her mouth hangs open and she tries to deal with the brutality of my flesh ripping through hers. I rip her shoes off and bring her feet up to my shoulders as once again my eyes flick to the door. Fuck, we are going to get caught. Adrian will be here any moment. I bring one of her feet up to my face and while my cock works at a piston pace I slowly lick her instep underneath her foot.

“Ahhh,” she cries as she tries to rip her foot from my grip.

My body is now out of control and I couldn’t stop if I wanted to. The desk is banging and she puts her hand up and clutches at the air as she comes silently around my cock. The muscle contraction is so intense that it doubles me over and I pump her, one … two … three times with my hands wrapped around her shoulders, and I come in a rush into her beautiful hot body. I lean and drop my head to her shoulder as I try to catch my breath, my heart hammering in my chest along with hers.

And she kisses me, the gentle tender kiss that is Natasha. The most powerful gesture in my world is the tender kiss in the afterglow of lovemaking from this beautiful creature. Nothing is more important than this, what we have. I thank god every day that she has come into my life … that she makes me feel like this. I feel myself being overwhelmed with emotion and I close my eyes and my lips instinctively drop to her neck as I try to gather my thoughts.

“You’re totally right. I do give a great closing argument,” she whispers.

I smile broadly into her neck. “Yes, you do.”

“I’m like the queen of closing arguments.” She giggles.

“Shut up.” I smile as I kiss her again on the neck and do up my fly. Then I stand and pull her up into a standing position and quickly retrieve her jacket and put it on her. “Stop seducing me in my office. Anybody could have walked in,” I mutter, disgusted that I lost my head. I bend and pick up her G-string and put it into my pocket.

She pushes me back into my chair and sits across my lap like a child with her arms wrapped around my neck.

“I love you,” she whispers as she kisses me again gently.

I smile and peck her on the lips. “I love you too.”

She starts to do crazy little kisses all over my face and I screw up my face to escape her.

“Does that mean you can take me on a date tonight … just us?” she whispers as she raises her eyebrows in question.

I smirk. “I suppose,” I reply.

The thing is, after the day I have had I should be in a much worse mood than I am. Lucky for me my girl knows what I need better than I do and a deep sense of contentment sweeps over me. Having her here with me and on my side is all that I need.

A hand settled on his shoulder and shook him. He groggily moaned and tried to open his eyes. The bright sun blinded him until his father leaned over and blocked the light as he stared down at Dane.

“Dad?”

“Are you okay, son? Is anything broken?”

“My head hurts. Ankle, too, but nothing is broken but my pride. I fell off my damn horse.”

“Okay, now. I’ll get you home. Can you get up?”

“I think so.” Dane pressed his hands down at his sides and rose to sitting. The wet piece of fabric fell from his head and landed on his bare belly, along with the blue feather that fluttered into his lap. “Where is she?”

“Who?”

“The girl.”

“Dane, no one is here.”

“She helped me. She’s got to be around here somewhere.”

“There’s no one for miles.”

“How did you find me?”

“Your horse came home without you. I know you like to ride along the river, so I followed your trail.” His dad cocked his head, his eyes taking on a thoughtful gleam. “I did think I heard you whistle for me.”

“I passed out.”

“Must have been the wind in the trees.”

Dane didn’t think so. He pinched the end of the feather between his thumb and index finger and stared at it. He scanned the riverbank and out toward the hills. He didn’t see her anywhere. He didn’t understand the way his chest went tight and the sadness that overtook him. Nothing but his regret that he didn’t get to thank her or say goodbye. He never got her name.

His dad held out his hand. Dane took it. His father pulled him up, and Dane stood on his good leg. He tested out his twisted ankle. The slight pressure sent a bolt of pain up his leg.

“How’s your vision?”

“Better.”

“You did a good job using your shirt to bind that ankle and staunch the bleeding on your head.”

“I didn’t. She did.”

His father eyed him, shaking his head side to side. “Dane—”

“I’m telling you, Dad, there was a girl. She helped me.”

“Okay, son. I believe you, but I didn’t see anyone out here with you. I don’t know where she could have gone. We’re in the middle of nowhere.”

Which was the reason Dane liked it out here so much. Still, how did she get out here, and where did she go?

He lifted himself up into the saddle and grabbed the reins on the horse his father brought back for him to ride. He kept his eyes trained, searching the entire area the whole way back home, but he saw nothing, no one.

Dane went back to the spot beside the river more than a dozen times, looking for his dark-haired, blue-eyed angel. He never found her, but he’d never forget her either.

excerpt

“Good morning, sire, it’s good to have you back. How was Venice?” Patrice asks as I fly past her desk, walking straight into my office, slamming the door behind me.

But that doesn’t stop her. She barges in with hot coffee, making herself comfortable in the black leather chair near my desk. “Okay, spill it. What’s going on?”

“Not now, Patrice,” I reply dismissively, switching on my computer.

In a daze, my eyes are fixed on the blank screen. I’m trying to avoid the inevitable conversation, and trying even harder to ignore her. She sets the cup down on my desk, softening her voice to almost a whisper, asking once again, “Donovan, what’s going on?”

“Don’t you have work to do?” I snap.

“Yes sir, I suppose I do,” she snaps back defensively as she gets up from her chair, mumbling the word asshole under her breath as she heads towards the door.

“I heard that,” I respond, somehow managing to muster up a slight chuckle. “I apologize, alright? Sit back down.”

“Accepted. Now, are you gonna tell me what’s got you in such a pissy mood?”

“In a nutshell…she did it again.”

“She? She who? Scarlett?”

“Yes, Scarlett.”

And there it is. The look that I was trying so hard to avoid. The poor-Donnie, sad-eyed, frowny-faced look that I know I’ll get every single time that I tell this fucking story. Perhaps I can just handle this in one fell swoop, and have Patrice send out a mass memo describing the details of the nightmare-in-Venice, fucking-kill-me-now debacle.

“I don’t get it, Donovan. She was the one that propo….”

“Please, don’t even say it. I really don’t want to get into this right now. Alright?”

“Sure, okay, Donnie. Can I do anything for you?”

She gets up again to leave, but pauses twice before reaching the door. I can see that she’s searching for the right thing to say. Something…anything…to lighten the mood, to cheer me up, to lessen the blow of what Scarlett has done, now twice…as if anything could. But I just want her to leave.

“You know she loves you, right? Do you want me to talk to her? I’m sure I can…”

I interrupt before she can say anything else. “Not another goddamn word about it, understand? Now, I have work to do.”

“Fine, for now. But you’ll have to talk about it at some point, you know.”

I continue to stare at the still-blank computer screen, waving her away.

Defeated, for now, at last she leaves, closing the door behind her.

The clock on the wall seems to be ticking slower than usual. I’ve been here for three hours, and am finding it impossible to concentrate, especially with my cell going off every ten minutes with calls and text messages from Scarlett. I’m not ready to talk to her, and to be honest, I don’t know if I ever will be. I don’t know if I even care at this point. Although I’m slightly curious, I really have no idea what we have to talk about anymore.

I need to get out of this hotel and clear my head. I knew coming here straight from the airport was probably a mistake, but it seemed like a good idea at the time. Better than sitting in that penthouse, alone, with nothing but the all-too-fresh memories of yet another Scarlett-related nightmare to keep me company.

Placing my cell phone in the top drawer of my desk, I change out of my monkey suit and into the spare set of clothes that I keep in the closet of my office. Stopping by Patrice’s desk on my way out, I let her know that I’m leaving for the rest of the day, and that I don’t want to be bothered, by anyone...no matter what’s on fire.

“Are you okay?” she asks, still pushing, hoping for some sort of verbal spillage on the details of my Venetian vacation.

“No, but I will be.”

about the author

A.J. Linn published his debut novel, A Gentleman’s Affair, Volume 1 of The Gentleman’s Series, in May, 2013.

Since that time, he has continued protagonist Donovan Hart’s story in A Gentleman’s Secret, published in December, 2013, and revealed Donovan’s earlier life in a prequel, A Gentleman’s Memoir, a novella published in August, 2014.

The series quickly became very popular with fans of his RP/character blog, which he’d been writing for almost a year. He credits those fans with this series, since they were the ones who encouraged him to “write a book” and dedicated the books to them.

With his unique voice and writing style, the popularity of the series began to grow, despite the promotion and marketing challenges facing a self-published indie author.

In an original and creative idea, he gave his readers the opportunity to submit “characters” for A Gentleman’s Secret and A Gentleman’s Memoir, which he crafted into the story. The results were intriguing and sometimes hilarious, as he paid the ultimate compliment to his fans and readers…making their characters part of Donovan’s story.

While having full-time job and a very busy life make finding time to write a challenge at times, his readers are in agreement that he has done a fantastic job: four books in two years is quite an accomplishment.

The paperback editions of the series can be found on Amazon. The ebooks are available on Smashwords, Barnes & Noble, and iTunes.

SPENCERKINDLEFINAL

@TheSpencerRyan exudes confidence,
I mean, have you seen him???
His dark good looks and tattooed muscled perfection are too much.
He’s hot. Lickably hot.
And he has a way with words that leaves me breathless.
But cocky doesn’t even cover it,
this guy is so arrogant you have to fight back.
But God he’s so lickable!
The thing is though,
he looks like sex but he’ll taste like jackass.

@OMGJazzyP is a sexy, annoying ball of rage in fuck-me heels
and she hates me.
Although her nipples would tend to disagree.
It’s a deadly combination.
She’s a princess.
And when I say princess, I mean intolerable, spoiled brat with a tiara.
Sure she’s got that curvaceous goddess thing going on,
but that mouth of hers…
God it needs something in it to shut it up.
#GotJustTheThingRightHere

This is not your average British romance.
It’s a tale of high heels, hot tattooed bad boys and
sex oranges, all wrapped up in a coating of chocolate.
It’s ‘love’ in a social media world,
where not everyone is who they seem
and where some people’s bios should carry a warning.

My Review

I’d like to start off this review with a congratulations to Kerry.  Spencer is skyrocketing on Amazon.  Congrats!!! Well deserved!

congratulations- gif fil

Kerry Heavens writes “real” and her latest book Spencer takes readers on the real adventures of Spencer and Jazz. two characters you will love.

In this story, Kerry creatively uses the social media platform Twitter as the means of communication between her characters.  Well done!  This story was unique, well thought out and brilliantly written. (I bet research for it was fun too.)

The characters, and I loved all of them are “real” which is what I love so much about Kerry’s writing.  You can imagine these characters and relate to them in the real world.  For me, that is something I enjoy when reading, that connection with the characters.

In this brilliantly written story, we meet Spencer.  Oh… Spencer.  He is hot, cocky and fun to read about.  Jazz has seen him before but it isn’t until her best friend Mags decides to do some investigating/stalking that his name and Twitter account are discovered.  Mags starts up a conversation with this arrogant guy on Twitter including Jazz.  The rest is ….. Well, here’s the part where I will tell you that you have to read the book.

For those of you familiar to Twitter, you know that you can hide behind any AVI of your choice.  Spencer, the perpetual selfie guy doesn’t hide, he enjoys the attention he gets from his followers.  Jazz uses her sexy shoes as her AVI.  Still curious?

Jazz has a sudden career change and as a result spends her summer with her best friend Mags in her posh home.  The “real” story happens there.  One of my favorite scenes happens in the downstairs bathroom.  Classic!  Kerry, you made me laugh so hard!

Both Jazz and Spencer are career minded and I liked that about them.  While different, I saw many things in common between these two making them another couple in my favorite couples list.

Jazz has her own talent which flourishes in this story.  It was great to see how that tied into this story.

Mags and Will are two supporting characters that I would love to read more about as well.  I do hope they get their own story.

This is a story that involves humor, sexy DM messages, steamy scenes, love and friendship all in a perfectly written package. Written through both of their POV’s adds to this amazing read.

I read this book in one sitting and enjoyed every single moment.  There was a “Danny” moment that brought out an extra smile.

Read and you will see that there is definitely more to Spencer than just those sexy selfies.  What is that saying?  “Appearances can be deceiving.” Aesop.

I highly recommend this book and know that you too will love it!

I gave this book 5 sparkling stars!

I received an ARC in exchange for an honest review.

Spencer Excerpt 1

The sight and smell that greets me is just the same as it was yesterday. Bowls and utensils everywhere; and an incredible smell of chocolate and trays with neat lines of rolled truffles. Except today, I notice it. How did I miss all this crap yesterday, chocolate usually comes above everything!

Oh, but yesterday I was on a mission.

Drooling, I head around the counter and pick up a ball of chocolate from one of the trays, savouring it as the flavours explode in my mouth. Dark chocolate with some kind of boozy fruit flavour. God, it’s good.

And she did this?

She’s dangerous.

A woman who looks like her, thinks like her, wears those shoes, gives me shit and makes stuff like this, is a danger.

If I had a heart, I’d be falling in love.

I come to a big bowl of soft looking chocolate goo with a spatula sitting in it. I dip my finger in the gooey goodness and lift it to my mouth.

Holy hell! That is fucking amazing. It’s ginger and dark chocolate with some alcohol. Damn. I want to put my face in the bowl. I glance around, then shrug. Lifting the spatula out, with a decent scoop, I lean against the counter and take a good long lick.

“What the hell do you think you’re doing?” she barks as she comes into the kitchen.

“Just having a taste, Princess,” I reply, turning to let her see me take another lick.

She storms over, trying to grab the spatula out of my hand. Good luck with that sweetheart, this is me and chocolate. You ain’t getting it back.

“You can’t just wander in here whenever you feel like it.”

“The door was open.”

“Give that back!” she demands, catching hold of it. For a second we both pull at it, but then I see an opportunity and let go. Chocolate splatters her face, neck and chest and stops her dead in her tracks.

I choke on a laugh.

She looks at me, mouth open, “You did that on purpose!”

I shrug.

She glances down at the mess on her chest and my eyes follow, locking in on her begging nipples, visible through her dress. She looks embarrassed.

“It’s ok, Princess, I know they like me even if you don’t. Happens whenever I’m around.”

“It does not!”

“Mmmm-ok.”

I step closer. She backs off, but I catch her arm and pull her close.

“What are you doing?” she gasps.

“I don’t waste chocolate,” I reply softly and then lean in and swipe my tongue over her temple.

She wriggles, but it’s a weak effort. “Get off me,” she demands.

“Hold still, Princess, it’s all over you.” I take another lick at her cheek and move down to her neck.

“Ok, that’s enough,” she snaps, her breath catching in her throat as I suck in her earlobe.

I lick her neck just below her ear even though there’s no chocolate there and the way her head falls slightly back in surrender makes me swallow hard. “It’s never enough,” I murmur.

What the fuck?

I shake the sappy shit out of my head before I grow a vagina, and pluck the spatula out of her hand, painting a trail down her cleavage. Dropping the spatula on the floor, I grab her by the arse and lift her so that I can lick it all off. She yelps and struggles and I plonk her down on the kitchen counter, leaning forward and feasting on the stripe I painted between her breasts. Her dress is ruined, shame, I quite liked it.

Bride Without a Groom

by Amy Lynch

bride without a groom cover

Rebecca has chosen the most luscious, five tiered, wedding cake – as featured in Hello! Magazine. The engagement ring that she has selected is celebrity inspired. The wedding singer is on speed dial. He doesn’t usually do Michael Bolton, but as it’s for a first dance he’ll make an exception. Father Maguire is checking dates for the parish church as we speak. The deposit on the white sand honeymoon is paid for in full on Barry’s card. Sure, the resort was good enough for Pierce Brosnan when he tied the knot. She has fallen for an ivory lace couture gown that is to die for. The down payment may require her to sell a left kidney, but it will be worth it. Isn’t that why you have two?

There’s one teeny problem. It’s nothing, really. No need to panic! It’s just that Barry has yet to propose. Says he’s not ready! He can be a bit of a kill joy that way. It’s time to face the harsh reality – she is a bride without a groom.

Truth be told, Barry’s had enough. There’s only so much wedding talk that one man can take. Discovering the credit card statement is the final straw. Now he’s leaving for a conference in Bangkok and frankly, he’s looking forward to the peace and quiet. He says he needs time to think about their relationship. As the Tiger beer flows and the tie loosens, his colleague Shelley is providing more than a shoulder for him to cry on. Maybe Shelley is right. Maybe Rebecca only wants the big day.

Back in Dublin, Rebecca worries. Maybe she has pushed Barry too far this time. Best mates Pam and Emer are on hand for counseling and cocktails. With the help of family, friends and a well stocked drinks cabinet, Rebecca puts her cunning plan together. Operation ‘Win Back Barry’ is in full swing. She needs to convince Barry that she’s not crazy – just crazy about him. But wait… who is the mysterious woman that is so keen to talk to her, and what is it that Barry needs to get off his chest?

My Review

Entertaining, funny and a must read for rom/com lovers everywhere.

Here’s a review I’m excited to share.   Bride Without  A Groom by Amy Lynch is a story that all rom/com lovers will enjoy and must read.  So yes, I highly recommend this story to you. I loved it for many reasons but probably so much because Amy created a character that reminded me of someone I know.

Do you know that one woman who has her wedding/future all planned out minus the groom?  Well, in this story, you will meet Rebecca, the bride without the groom.  Rebecca is a most lovable humorous character who has gone to great lengths to plan her perfect wedding to Barry, her longtime boyfriend.  She has fine taste, and knows exactly what she wants in her wedding.  But, there’s a tiny problem, Barry doesn’t propose as expected.

This story takes place over a short time span, while Barry is away on a business trip. This time away from Barry proves to be packed with humor and a most enjoyable story.  I’m keeping my review as spoiler free as possible but I’ll tell you this, be prepared for a bride without a groom that is totally obsessed with the “I do” moment.  This story gets real, gets funnier and well….  read the book and find out.

So, you know what to do, head on over to Amazon and “one click” this baby.  Set aside the time, grab a glass of wine and enjoy Amy Lynch’s Bride Without A Groom.

I gave this book 5 stars.

Famed artist, Maxfield Caswell is missing.
Three of his major paintings have been savagely defaced and his house left in ruins. As his friends search for him, does his muse, Ava, hold the key?
Before the hope of love is lost, secrets will be told, spirits will be broken, and a price will be paid.
From the cave dwellings of New Mexico to the shores of Malibu, Max and Ava’s journey tests them to their limits. As they render passion and pain in broad strokes, will their all-consuming love rise from the debris?
Exceprt blue

On the way to my car, he stops me. “Ava, I need to say something.”

“Yes?”

He pauses on the walkway, looks down and kicks a pebble toward

the lawn.

“I know that as much I’d like to…I can’t ask you not to see

Jonathan…”

What? I glance up at him with my head tipped to the side.

He’s twisting his hands together as I wait for him to continue. He

finally looks me square in the eyes.

“…But, will you do me a favor? Don’t fall in love with him.”

I arch my brow. “Did you really just ask me that?” Should I tell him

there’s little to no chance of my falling in love with Jonathan now?

He gets a devilish look in his eyes as he holds up his hands in surrender.

“I know, I know…I just don’t want you to get involved with

him on the rebound.”

I put my hands on my hips and arch my brow. “Max, to be on the

rebound you have to have been in a relationship to rebound from.”

He seems to ignore my logic. “Besides, Ava, you could still be really

attracted to me and not know it.”

“Really? I don’t think my attraction to you is in question.”

“Yeah, what if you’re secretly falling in love with me?”

I playfully push him on the shoulder. “You wish!” I tease.

“There’s only one way to know for sure. Don’t you think you should

know before you go out with Jonathan again?”

“One way to know for sure?”

“Yes. Kiss me. I promise I won’t touch you—look, hands free!” He

tucks his hands into his back pockets.

My mouth falls open as I press my thighs together. Just the idea of

being kissed again by Max makes me instantly hot and bothered.

“Just one little kiss,” he says in a low voice.

I can’t believe he’s playing this game with me. But the fire in his eyes

and the sweet smile on his face are more than I can bear. I take a step

toward him. Two can play this game.

“So, if I feel nothing, we’ll agree to be friends—that’s it—no complications.

And I can friggin’ marry Jonathan if I so choose.”

He makes a sour face, but nods anyway.

I bite my lip as I look into his eyes. One kiss, one kiss…I close my

eyes as I edge closer until I can feel the heat shimmering from his skin.

“Oh, Ava,” he whispers, a deep longing in his voice.

His breath on my cheek undoes me, and when our lips meet, they

meld together as if they’d just kissed a moment earlier. We kiss languidly,

sensuously, our tongues meeting in an erotic dance. He gently

bites my bottom lip before I press my lips even harder against his. An

overwhelming current suddenly surges through me, practically knocking

me over.

Oh my God! I’m on fire. I run one of my hands along his shoulder

and behind his neck, pulling him closer, while winding my other hand

into his hair and tugging it passionately. Our bodies are pressed together

so tightly I feel as if I’m one with him.

He moans my name over and over as the kiss intensifies. I’m lost in

his sweet mouth, his lips turning me into a traitor to logic and reason.

When I finally pull away to gasp for air, he grins widely, and the

bright-eyed expression on his face is victorious. He gambled big and

won.

Like there was ever a question—he owns me. He probably has all

along; it’s just taken me all this time to figure it out.

He studies me with a spark in his eyes, and he takes a sharp breath.

He takes his hands out of his pockets as if to grab me and never let me go.

My heart’s so full I can’t help but shine with a smile.

I remember we’re taking things slow, so without a word, I hurry to

my car before he can say something to draw me back into his arms. But

even as I flee the charged atmosphere and speed down PCH, I can feel

his joy follow me all the way home.

Top 10 of Co-Authoring as Husband and Wife

What are our Top 10 of co-authoring as husband and wife?

  1. Laughter. Daily. Tons of hilarious moments make the writing process a blast.
  2. Healthy debates. One of us often felt strongly about something like a scene or marketing step. Great decisions were made when we fought for things we believed in.
  3. Creative banter. Knocking ideas around makes for fantastic improv scene creation.
  4. Teamwork. Writing is typically a solitary endeavor. The support of a writing partner in all areas, from writing and editing to promotion and administrative, is powerful.
  5. Demystifying Mars and Venus. We learn more about each other and the differences between men and women as we develop our characters.
  6. Sex scenes. Ummm… Yeah.
  7. Spending time together. Gone are the days where writing separates us. Now it brings us together.
  8. Splitting up and teaming up. Two minds can edit and blog post or write and send emails simultaneously. We also loved tackling various aspects like editing together, each bringing a valued opinion to decision making.
  9. Creativity 24/7. We can create anywhere and everywhere. Our iPhone Notes is well used.
  10. Keeping balance. We give each other gentle reminder to turn off the book thoughts. We write hard. Then we unplug and play hard.
