Icing on the Cake

Publication Date: January 30, 2018
Genres: Adult, Contemporary, Romance

Purchase: Amazon | Barnes & Noble | Kobo | iBooks

Notting Hill meets The Prince & Me in Icing on the Cake, the second standalone laugh-out-loud romance in Ann Marie Walker’s Wild Wedding series

Cassandra Miller doesn’t have time for men. She’s far too busy trying to open a cupcake shop with her silent partner and best friend, not to mention catering her brother’s wedding. And let’s face it, it’s not like Prince Charming is going to stroll into the bakery and sweep her off her feet.

Henry has been a prince his entire life but for one wild wedding he wants to be nothing more than an “Average Joe”, or in this instance, “Average Hank”. However, when a case of mistaken identity and a batch of burned cupcakes ends in a night of passion, Cassie and Hank must decide if theirs is a recipe for disaster or the makings of true romance.

Excerpt

His fingers rested on her hips, barely touching her, and yet she felt as though she were melting into his hands. Without thinking, she wrapped her arms around his neck and pulled him closer. She wanted to feel the weight of him against her, to know he was as affected by her as she was him. He pressed against her and she felt the shape of him, hard against her softness, and she couldn’t help but wonder how long he’d been that way, if this perfect man had wanted her this whole time as badly as she’d wanted him.

When he broke their kiss, she was more than ready for whatever came next.

“Come up to my room,” Hank breathed. His lips moved over her jaw and down her throat, leaving a trail of feather light kisses that left her aching for more. “I have a lovely four-poster bed that’s far too big for one.”

His room, his bed. Sex in his bed. She couldn’t pretend she didn’t want one wild night with this handsome stranger, but sex in a bed was so . . . so . . . normal. She’d done normal. And although normal sex was better than no sex, something told her that the man in front of her was offering good sex, and that was something that was long overdue.

Cassie blinked hard. She took a moment to gather her composure, but like her resistance it was currently scattered all over the bakery floor. Hmm, the floor would work just fine.

When she didn’t answer he pulled back, slipping a finger under her chin and lifting her eyes to his once again. “Shall I take that as a yes?”

“Why can’t we just stay here?” Her voice sounded as shaky as the rest of her. But it wasn’t from intimidation or nerves. On the contrary, for the first time in her life Cassie felt strong and fearless and brave. Still, something about this man made her tremble in the most delicious way.

His eyes glowed with a mixture of amusement and lust. “Believe me, luv, I’d like nothing better than to take you right here, against this door.”

Her heart hammered inside her chest. Did he really just say that? And in an accent that was nearly enough to finish her off? Who was this man who had come into her life as if a direct answer to Olivia’s outrageous suggestion? The images her friend had conjured two days prior flooded her senses. Oh yes, that was exactly what she wanted. Right then and there.

Lucky for her, Hank was a bit more aware of their surroundings. “But those windows don’t have any curtains,” he said, nodding over his shoulder. “And I would hate for some random pub-goer to get an eyeful of your beautiful curves as he stumbled home.”

Sex god and a gentleman? This guy was too good to be true.

“Ask me again,” she said.

A momentary frown drifted across his face until realization took hold. He leaned closer and whispered roughly against her ear. “Let’s go up to my room, so I can make you come all night.”

Holy hell, that he didn’t have to offer twice.

Will by Kerry Heavens

Series: Not Your Average British Romance, Book 2
Release Date November 1st, 2016
Genre Contemporary romance

WillCover2016.jpg

Synopsis

Will Middleton has no clue how much I want him.
He looks at me like I’m an angel,
And all I can think about is how he would look tied to my bed.

He’s the perfect gentleman.
Amazing considering he’s related to The Spencer Ryan.
He is everything Spencer is not. Sensitive, considerate, and unassumingly handsome.
I’d like to show him that’s a good thing.
But he broke my heart once,
and I don’t know if I can let him do it again.

Mags Goldsmith is a beautiful, confident heiress and she seems to want me.
Although she really shouldn’t. I’m not what she needs.
She’s a goddess. And when I say goddess,
I mean erotica writing siren, who knows more than one use for a riding crop

Everything I thought I knew about her has been rewritten,
And now she’s got me tied up in knots.
She’s everything I’ve ever wanted and more,
I just have to prove I’m worthy.

This is not your average British romance.
It’s a tale of second chances, strap-ons, and of course sex oranges,
All bound up and tied to a bedroom door.

My Review

Will, what can I say? I’ll be honest. It took me some time to get into this book. I was expecting something different. And, different it was.  Will turned out to be fantastic.  Will and Mags had a relationship years ago and Will still has feelings for Mags.  If you’ve read Spencer, Will is quite the opposite. He’s vulnerable and sweet, but quite surprising.  Mags and Will are quite different so I understood Will’s insecurities.

I truly enjoyed reading about Will and especially enjoyed the changes that came from both of the main characters.

It was fun to reconnect with characters from Spencer and to see how they were sprinkled into this gem. So yes, you still get some Spencer in this book.

This story brings fantasies and trust to life. It’s a second chance romance with humor, laugh out loud moments and plenty of exceptionally well written sex scenes.

Kerry has has done it again with her latest 5 star read.  So get to it, get your copy today!

Every nerve in Allie’s body sprang to life, responding to Hudson as though he was right in front of her, not miles away. Even from that distance she could feel the attraction that pulsed between them, a magnetic pull drawing her to him. This was the power he had over her, one she was helpless to resist even if she’d wanted to. Review – A Midsummer Night’s Fling (Much Ado About Love, #1) by @authoreliza Eliza Walker #review #releaseday

Susi Reviews A Midsummer Night’s Fling

(Much Ado About Love, #1)

by Eliza Walker

midsummer nights fling cover

The show must go on, but the price of admission could be her heart.

Sick of her vagabond life in a Broadway touring company, Nicola is ready to settle down. She wants nothing more than to park her suitcase in California, put out feelers for local auditions, and leave her past firmly behind her.

Too bad her past comes knocking on her door her first day home. All six-foot-three, beautiful man of her past named Max. Stupid Max. The mistake Nicola just can’t seem to stop making.

Even before Nicola—fiery, quick-witted, beautiful Nicola—slams the door in his face, Max is in trouble. She will always be the one who got away. Three times. Which makes convincing her to play Titania to his Oberon a bit…awkward.

Though she has zero desire to re-re-rekindle an old flame, Nicola can’t turn down the chance Max is offering: a lead role with the West Coast’s premiere Shakespeare company. But when their first rehearsal kiss disintegrates into a passionate liplock, she’s questioning her sanity and tempted to jump ship—before Max can break her heart again.

Now it’s up to Max to convince her that the torch he’s been carrying is actually an eternal flame.

My Review

What do you get when you mix a Summer acting job, a second chance romance and Shakespeare?  Well, you get a Midsummer Night’s Fling by Eliza Walker.  I will be honest, I wasn’t too sure I was going to like this book at the very start.  It took me some time to really get to know and like the characters but, once it happened, the rest of the book was a real treat. I am a fan of Shakespeare and it had been quite some time since I read or was reminded of his work.  Eliza blended a clever and well written story that was a pleasant surprise from all of my other current reads.

Nicola and Max, the two main characters are actors that are reunited after several years.  They had a relationship years ago that didn’t end well.  A Summer acting job brings them together in roles that pull at their emotional and sensual strings.  This story has humor, angst, love, and a great cast both as actors and friends.  Chemistry among lovers is hard to shake and Max and Nicola definitely have it making that aspect of the book so much more enjoyable.

I will mention this, you need to be familiar with Shakespeare’s A Midsummer Night’s Dream to understand the roles they will play when acting.  I had to do a little refresher research to make all of the connections in my mind.  Once I did that, the story flowed, made sense to me and was brilliant.

I do love second chance romance stories and I am always the cheerleader routing for the two former lovers to come together.  I do recommend that you read the book to see what happens between these two.  I won’t spoil it for you.

I look forward to reading the rest of this series.  A Midsummer Night’s Fling is a perfect Summer Beach Read.

I gave this book 4 stars.

Eliza, congrats on your debut!

In fact, Morgan is pretty sure she’s found hers—and he looks quite enticing in a hard hat. As sparks fly between Morgan and Caleb despite his best intentions not to mix business and pleasure, will she finally warm up and help him lay the foundation for everlasting love?

My Review

Jennifer Probst is one of my favorite authors.  All of her books make me fall in love with the characters, the families, the pets and the wonderful stories that each unique character brings to life in the mind of the reader.  Everywhere and Every Way, her newly released book is another brilliant and amazing read.  This story comes complete with a unique and different cast of characters.  I happen to love Property Brothers on HGTV so this book is right up my alley.  I am also currently living through an entire house renovation so the subject matter, construction,  is my current situation. Jennifer created some pretty amazing characters in this series.  First of all, I loved the strong willed Morgan Raines.  Her vision and relentless pursuit for building and designing perfection make her an amazing protagonist.  Cal Pierce, the sexy builder takes on Morgan’s recent project.  Yes, I did type sexy.  (Wait, let me just say that my builders don’t look anything like Cal) Cal is the oldest of the Pierce Brothers and one that I wouldn’t mind watching hammer and drill in my own home.  Each brother is unique and brings his own twist to the story.  A recent tragedy brings the three brothers together at that same time Morgan comes into the picture.  Let’s just say that building a new home has never been sexier.

Jennifer always manages to include some pets that make me smile.  There are two pretty fun dogs in this story as well.  This story is like a perfect recipe.  Jennifer adds the right amount of romance, humor, angst, family, love and even sprinkles in a little foreshadowing for the next book in the series.  I love to make my own predictions about which character will be the main one in the next book.

Everywhere and Every Way is definitely on my list of perfect summer reads.  I truly enjoyed it and know you will too.

Cara Mears has a good life…simple, satisfying, and safe.

She owns a successful company, has loyal friends, and a decent relationship, and has convinced herself that this is enough.

This is a life she knows how to navigate.

Enter Dylan Madigan, her long-time movie-star crush, devastatingly handsome, arrogant, and famous.

At that moment, everything changes.

Their seductive and romantic journey begins, exposing their vulnerabilities, testing their resolve, and leaving them emotionally naked.

The bigger-than-life movie star turns Cara’s life inside out and upside down, but is it for the better?

What happens when dreams actually become reality?

My Review

Compelling, addictive and sexy!

I’m a sucker for a well written romance.  A talented author is one who can make their story come alive in my mind.  At That Moment, Scarlett Hartgrove’s debut has all of the elements I admire in a romance and her brilliant story came to life just like a motion picture.

At That Moment is filled with brilliantly written “moments” that entice, enthrall and enchant the reader.  Scarlett created characters that I loved from the very first “moment” I met them.  Cara is my favorite and the most relatable for me since I found we shared so many common interests.  Dylan,  Wow!  I know I immediately fell for him just like Cara.  There is much to love about him.  After all, it’s not every day that you get to meet your movie crush, much less develop a friendship with him.  The cast of supporting characters was perfect.  They added and aided in keeping the dynamic flow of this story alive.  They kept the light parts light, offered humor, love  and support when the main characters needed them the most.  They were extremely important in keeping Cara focused as well.

As a reader, I pictured every moment in this exquisitely written book.  The details and descriptions were brilliant.  At That Moment,  takes the cake with flawless characters, exquisite and vivid locations and an exceptional plot.

This story is one I highly recommend.  It is a romance that will hook you, make you smile, swoon, I know I did, feel some angst, make you mad, and truly feel the love.

I am anxiously awaiting book 2.

TEASER

Chelsea sits beside me on the couch, facing me, her legs tucked, her pretty feet curled under her. Yes—Chelsea has pretty feet, okay? I never knew feet could be pretty—until I saw hers.
“So . . . that talk I mentioned before? We should probably have that now, while we can.”
I take a sip of my drink and nod. “Yeah—I wasn’t at all hoping you’d forget about it or anything.”
Her face slides into a grin. “Funny.”
I look back at her, straight-faced. “I’m a funny guy.”
When she doesn’t say anything for a few moments, I ask, “What’s up?”
Because now I’m actually getting concerned. My stomach tightens as I brace for whatever’s worrying her—and before I even know what I’m up against, in my head I’m already planning all the ways I’ll take care of it. Because that’s what I do—and I’m good at it.
But what she tells me next blows my fucking mind.
“I’m late.”
Two words—ten thousand thoughts exploding in my head at once.
I’m a big guy, six-five, 225 pounds of muscle. Guys like me, our voices don’t squeak. But at this moment, mine comes damn close.
“Like . . . for an appointment?”
Chelsea inhales deeply, then breathes out, “No.”

Cara Mears has a good life…simple, satisfying, and safe.

“I really hope all you fellow readers that enjoy a great romance novel will be swept away in the book as I have.” – Goodreads Reviewer

Dylan leaned back in his first-class seat with his long legs stretched out in front of him, his headphones in his ears. His eyes were closed, and he slowly became aware of the flight attendant hovering over him, asking if he would like something to drink. Removing one of the ear buds, he gave her a dazzling smile. “No, I’m fine, thank you.”

She returned his smile and moved down the aisle of the plane. Dylan leaned back and looked out the window, putting the bud back in his ear.
He was tired. He had encountered a mob of paparazzi at the airport in New York this morning, and totally lost it with a rude, relentless photographer who kept shoving a camera in his face. Christ, how he hated that shit! He found it ironic that he so loved a career that nurtured that insanity.

Thinking about his purchase of Bradford House, he smiled. He’d fallen in love with North Carolina when visiting a friend on a movie set a few years ago. While he wasn’t crazy about the altitude in the mountains, he found the Piedmont area very beautiful with its rolling foothills. It reminded him of his home in Ireland. He was anxious to see how the renovations were coming along, and even more anxious to know when he would actually be able to move in. It would be a perfect place to relax and rejuvenate between projects.

As he glanced at his watch, Cara flashed through his mind. He wondered what she was doing right now.

Cara. What was it about her he couldn’t get out of his mind? Everything. She intrigued him. She was beautiful and charming. And real.

But there was something fragile about her, something he couldn’t quite put his finger on, and he didn’t want to scare her away. He wanted to know everything about her. On the phone earlier this week, he had been able to coax her to share a bit about herself. He loved her soft, Southern accent, and wanted to listen to her talk for hours on end.

He would move very slowly and cautiously. Somehow, he knew she was not one to be toyed with, and he didn’t want to make any mistakes. There was something between them, a connection. He had experienced the coup de foudre the moment he had turned around from the bar and took her hand, and hoped that he wouldn’t do anything impulsive or stupid to fuck it up.

Even though he sensed a vulnerability in her, he also sensed a hidden sensuality underneath her polished and proper surface. The thought made him shift in his seat, and he realized he had to steer his mind in another direction, now.

His thoughts were interrupted by the Captain’s announcement that they were beginning their descent, and the flight attendant was beside him, asking him to raise his seat back and fasten his seat belt.

He checked the time. Was Cara waiting for him to call? Was she as nervous as he was? It had been a very long time since he’d felt this way about any woman. He actually had butterflies in his stomach, and smiled at the feeling.

This was good, right? He nodded to himself. This was very good.
* * * * *
I am a southern woman, born and bred.

I love the beach, cooking, gardening, sweet tea, cats, good books, music, and warm, sunny weather.

Growing up as a child of blind parents gave me a unique perspective of life. Watching my parents struggle to overcome adversity in order to provide a normal life for me and my brother, I learned the meaning of tenacity, self-reliance, independence, grace, and the true importance of family.

I am a glass-half-full-girl to my very core.

As a young girl, I kept a diary, which led to the habit of keeping a journal and writing short stories. I’ve spent my life writing in my head.

I’ve always had an open book nearby, soaking up the adventures that transport me from my daily life to exotic, exciting locations around the world.

Someday, if someone remembers me as a kind, compassionate, and strong person, I will have lived the life I always wanted.
